About

Miles After Fifty is about learning how to keep running for years to come.

I didn’t grow up as a runner, and I haven’t been running for decades. I started in my 50s because I wanted to become healthier and more active.

What began as a simple way to exercise gradually became something I really enjoy. I started running regularly, entering races, learning about training, and probably spending more time thinking about running shoes than I ever expected.

I’m a recreational runner, not an elite athlete or a coach. I’m still learning what works for me and what doesn’t.

That’s why I created Miles After Fifty.

This is where I share what I’m learning from my own running — training for races, trying different shoes, figuring out recovery, dealing with the occasional setback, and learning how to improve without pushing too hard.

I still want to get better. I enjoy having races on my calendar and having something to train for. But the longer I run, the more I realize that being able to keep running matters more to me than chasing a particular pace or finishing time.

Sometimes that means running slower. Sometimes it means shortening a workout or taking an extra day off.

I’m still figuring all of this out, and I expect the way I think about running will continue to change as I gain more experience.

If you started running later in life, are returning to running after some time away, or simply want to find a way to keep running consistently, I hope you’ll find something useful here.

See you on the road.
